DAY 7: Wamena - to the South, Kilise Village
The next day, we decided not to "hire" our yesterday guide. So we called another guide which was recommended by 2 German guys whom we met when we first arrived at Wamena. After deal on the price. We packed our rucksack, planning to stay 1 nite in the village southern Wamena.

First we went to market to get some ransom, bread, jam, water, some cigarettes for the villagers and candy for the kids. We then hopped on to a bus, heading to Kilise, a village where we would stay for a nite.

After one hour on the road, we dropped off and started to walk to the village. We walked around 5-6 hours, you may get there faster if you have good stamina. Moi... just a slow walker plus stopover to take some pictures.. :-)).

When we got there, I was amazed. Aside from the scenery, the village where tourists can stop and rest is nicely done. With neat path towards the entrance, organized hut and garden. It's like a resort minus the facility. We stayed in one of the hut specially made for tourists. Dont expect any mattress here, they only provide thin mattress (like yoga mattress) and some blanket. You may want to bring your own sleeping bag to make it cozier.

We put our bags and went up to see whats around the village. We met the villagers, kids and their school. I even went and play football with the kids... :-)

DAY 8: Back to Wamena
The next day, we went back to Wamena. If you like to go more trekking, you may continue to Asmat village. We were not planning to do that, our journey was only upto touch and taste only a little bit of Baliem Valley.

On the way back, we did what I used to call an ANT OPERATION when I joined outdoor activity in highschool. We collected plastic garbage along the path back. As much as I support civilization in Papua where the people can enjoy electricity, medical treatment, education, and much more... there is one thing that forgotten... They dont realize that plastic garbage is not good for earth, might cause flood and landslide in the long run.

During our 7 hours walking back to Wamena road, we collected around more then 10 big plastic bags of plastic garbage (from instant noodle, biscuits, candies, etc). Along the path, some villagers wondering what we were doing, especially to see my "white" friend picking up garbage. I was constantly explaining to them that plastic garbage is not good and they might lose tourist visiting Papua which means no more additional income for them. I played the advice several time every time i met villagers who were passing by us, even the kids. Good thing, in one of the village, several kids helped us collecting the garbage. I gave them candies as reward. I even made some simulation to show them how the garbage can harm their land. I do hope they understand my point and continuing caring about their rich land and not because expecting some candies as the rewards. (Picture: orange bags full of plastic garbage, we ended up burning them, not the best way, we just didnt have the "facility" to bring all to wamena!!)

DAY 9: Wamena - Jayapura
We went to Jalan Trikora, my friend again looked for souvenir for collection. We departed to Jayapura at 11pm and arrived at around 12pm

DAY 10: Jayapura - Jakarta
The adventure ended. I am darker now, the sun really burned my face and forearms. My nose skin started to peel, so not amusing!! But I had fun, now i can cross Papua from my list.

For those who like adventure, away from the city, mingle with local people without afraid of no running water or toilet paper (trust me, I met a couple and the gal complained about it and they went back the next day.. :-)), the dirty or the smell, Papua is a nice destination to go.

If you do go, and visit the village, do me a favour, PLEASE DO NOT LITTER ... :-)
